A new initiative is helping 1,000 Tasmanian students overcome digital barriers by providing free laptops, internet access, and tech support.
Through the Tech4Kids TAS – No Child Left Behind program, supported by energy network provider TasNetworks, WorkVentures, TasCOSS, and Anglicare, students in Years 5 to 12 who lack access to a laptop will receive the tools they need to succeed.
Students in Tasmania face some of the highest digital exclusion rates in Australia, with 30% of Tasmanian students lacking a laptop at home, making programs like this critical for their education and future opportunities.
TasNetworks Chief Executive Sean Mc Goldrick highlighted the program’s impact, saying, “Removing barriers to education, such as digital barriers, are critical to ensuring more children are able to engage with learning and achieve better educational outcomes.”
Students will receive refurbished laptops pre-loaded with essential software, a free setup coaching call, and ongoing technical support for 12 months. The initiative also raises awareness of the Australian Government’s School Student Broadband Initiative, which offers free home internet to eligible families.

- WorkVentures will be distributing refurbished laptops pre-loaded with essential educational software.

- Half-hour coaching call to set up and begin using the laptops effectively.
- Raising awareness of the School Student Broadband Initiative, an Australian Government program offering free NBN home internet access to up to 30,000 qualifying families and carers until 30 June 2028.
- Technical Support:
- Ongoing tech support to address any issues with the devices for 12 months.
- Eligibility:
- Students in Years 5 to 12 who lack access to a laptop.
