Queensland’s State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers will receive $300,000 in funding to enhance their ability to protect local communities. The support, provided by Powerlink Queensland, Energex, and Ergon Network, will help SES groups purchase generators, lighting, first aid kits, water rescue tools, and other essential equipment.
More than 140 SES groups benefited from the program last year, and over the past decade, the Energising Queensland SES partnership has provided $1.5 million to support the 5,000 SES volunteers who dedicate their time to emergency response efforts.
SES Chief Officer Mark Armstrong expressed gratitude for the ongoing support, noting that these essential resources will help volunteers continue their life-saving work.
“Our volunteers are an integral part of their communities,” he said.
“We are grateful for the support of our energy partners to be better equipped to do the work they willingly do.”
Powerlink CEO Paul Simshauser reflected on the strong partnership between energy companies and the SES, emphasising their shared role in disaster response and community resilience.
“I think of how disasters have impacted Queensland over the last decade, and two things are most noticeable: volunteers responding to calls for help and energy workers out restoring safe access to electricity,” he said.
The new equipment is set to be delivered from late February.
