Powering Growth: Connecting Communities to Australia’s New Energy Record

February 11, 2026

The landscape of Australian energy is shifting rapidly, with the final quarter of 2025 marking a historic milestone for the nation’s power grid. Recent data from the Clean Energy Council reveals a significant surge in momentum, as nine major solar and wind generation sites reached completion in the year’s closing months. This represents a substantial A$3.3 billion investment into the infrastructure required to keep Australian homes powered and local economies thriving for generations to come.

These new projects have added 2.1 gigawatts of capacity to the network—a figure that exceeds the combined output of the previous six quarters. This influx of clean energy is a vital component of the effort to meet Australia’s growing demand for power. By connecting these diverse energy sources to the national grid, the path forward becomes clearer, ensuring that regional and urban communities alike have access to the reliable electricity needed to grow and prosper.

Complementing this growth in generation is a record-breaking expansion in energy storage. Four utility-scale batteries commenced operations recently, contributing to an annual output that surpasses the total of the prior eight years combined. These “big batteries” act as a crucial safety net for the grid, storing power when it is abundant and releasing it when it is needed most. For families and small businesses, this enhanced storage capacity is a key step toward long-term energy security and price stability.

While Australia leads the world in per-capita rooftop solar, the transition to a modern grid relies heavily on the development of new energy pathways. Transmission infrastructure remains the essential link between where energy is generated and the communities that use it. Continued investment in these pathways is necessary to overcome previous bottlenecks, allowing the wealth of renewable resources currently under construction to be delivered efficiently to every household and business across the country.

The scale of this transition is evidenced by the 81 generation projects and 75 storage sites currently under construction or financially committed. These projects do more than just lower emissions; they strengthen local economies by creating jobs and supporting regional development. As more of these sites come online, they reinforce the stability of the Australian electricity market, providing the relief families need and the certainty businesses require to thrive.

Ensuring a reliable and affordable energy future is a collective effort. By prioritising the connection of new energy sources through robust transmission networks, Australia is building a more resilient grid. This progress ensures that the nation can meet its future energy needs while maintaining the high standard of living and economic opportunity that every community deserves.
