ElectraNet is engaging with communities on the proposed Northern Transmission Project (NTx), inviting stakeholders to play a central role in shaping early project planning.
Informed by growing demand and the region’s future energy needs, NTx proposes two new high-capacity new energy pathways; one from the Mid North to Greater Adelaide, and one to Whyalla.
However, the project’s exact route and approach are far from set.
Workshops recently held in Port Augusta, Burra and Gawler marked the first step in ensuring that Traditional Owners, landholders, businesses and community members help guide how the project evolves.
“We want to understand the views of local residents, businesses, landholders and Traditional Owners,” said ElectraNet Chief Executive Officer, Simon Emms.
“Their feedback will help shape the project, including the potential route and how we can minimise impacts and maximise benefits for all South Australian customers.”
Project Director David Tansell emphasised that these discussions are more than a formality, they’re a foundation.
“This is best achieved with stakeholder input and ideas, ensuring NTx delivers value from both a local and state perspective,” Mr Tansell said.
The project is currently in its early feasibility and planning phase, including a cost-benefit analysis by the Australian Energy Regulator.
