Opportunity arises for Central Queensland businesses

Powerlink’s upcoming new energy pathway project in Central Queensland is opening up significant opportunities for local businesses to contribute to a major infrastructure upgrade. 

More than 100 businesses have already submitted 169 expressions of interest across 54 work packages.

“Central Queensland businesses make up a third of all interest with 63% located in Gladstone, 24% from Rockhampton and 5% from Banana,” said Powerlink spokesperson Chris Garlick.

The project will help reinforce Queensland’s electricity network and support local economic development. 

“We are committed to engaging even more local businesses to build the capabilities and resilience of local economies,” Mr Garlick said.

This early engagement is already building on strong foundations, with more than a third of current applicants having previously worked with Powerlink. There is a clear depth of local experience and capability, highlighted by the strength of the local supply chain.

Businesses that register their interest will have an opportunity to connect with the primary contractor once appointed.

Additionally, Indigenous businesses are especially encouraged to participate.

“This is an opportunity to showcase your expertise and contribute to a project of state-wide significance,” Mr Garlick said.
