Seventy-eight community groups across Far North, North, Central, and Southern Queensland are receiving a grant boost from Powerlink, including over $320,000 to support local projects that enhance community wellbeing.
In Far North Queensland, 11 community organisations are using nearly $55,000 in funding to bring new opportunities to life. The Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre, for example, is creating an accessible community garden using recycled and repurposed materials, featuring raised water wicking beds and vertical cascading gardens. The Long Pocket community is also benefiting from grant support, with funding to revitalise local tennis courts and increase recreational opportunities.
In North Queensland, 14 community groups are sharing over $69,000 to fund projects that strengthen local engagement. The Flinders Hack and Pony Club is using its grant to run Riding Rhythms workshops, providing rural residents with equestrian activities that might otherwise be out of reach.
Central Queensland communities are putting close to $50,000 in funding to good use. The Biloela Scout Group is upgrading its camping facilities with renewable energy solutions, while the CQShines Foundation is improving paediatric maternity services at Gladstone Hospital, ensuring better healthcare for local families.
Thirteen-year-old scout Nathanial Wilkinson of Biloela Scout Group said the grant would make the group’s camping trips a much better experience.
“We’ll have lights at night, hot water for showers, and flushing toilets, and we won’t even need a generator,” he said.
Southern Queensland is receiving the largest share, with 39 community groups securing over $148,000 to expand programs that support local needs. Mary Valley State College, for instance, is growing its After School Sports and Recreation programme, fostering physical and mental well-being while strengthening community ties.
These grants are driving real, local change, helping organisations build stronger, more connected communities across Queensland. By supporting grassroots initiatives, the funding from Powerlink is creating immediate benefits for residents and local businesses, and improving local offerings.
