Connecting new energy requires a nationally consistent approach when it comes to engaging with communities about new energy projects. The Australian Government has developed the following guidelines to improve the way responsible companies:

Engage with communities
Gather local knowledge to inform project design and construction
Identify and manage project impacts
Understand and help mitigate local concerns
Deliver meaningful benefits to the local community and First Nations groups
Monitor how communities respond to their engagement activities and tailor them if needed

Accessing land to connect New Energy

Companies are required to negotiate with landholders to access their land, to connect New Energy. Landholders provide developers with safe access to the New Energy lines for maintenance, repairs and construction work. Easements can include government and privately owned land.

Landholders who have an easement on their property will be compensated by New Energy companies. Land acquisition provisions are set out in legislation for each state and territory.
